The Dallas Cowboys are still called America’s team but they’re hardly a team we should consider as such. While political statements and allegories could be made about the Cowboys being America’s team, we try to avoid that while watching football and focus on the fandom — and that’s something that’s hurting the Cowboys in the sales department as of late.
While they usually are at or near the top of NFL merchandise sales, the Cowboys have dropped to the fourth best selling team in the NFL behind the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers.
Here’s a look at the top 10 best selling teams from last April through this February:
1. Seattle Seahawks
2. Denver Broncos
3. San Francisco 49ers
4. Dallas Cowboys
5. New England Patriots
6. Green Bay Packers
7. Chicago Bears
8. Pittsburgh Steelers
9. New Orleans Saints
10. New York Giants
It’s actually amazing that the Cowboys, as bad and disappointing as they’ve been over the last ten years, still manage to crack the top 5 in sales. It’s a testament to the brand they created over the last 40 years but their slipping down the chart shows that fans won’t stick around forever.
That being said, the reason for the high sales number could be due to the fact that Cowboys fans have burned all their previously owned merchandise and need something else to destruct out of rage.
