Might the Baltimore Ravens be quietly adding some insurance for embattled running back, Ray Rice? Probably not, but I’m sure the thought was in the back of their mind when they went out and signed former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Justin Forsett on Friday afternoon.

Forsett is likely best remembered as being a backup to well known running backs and putting up a few solid games when he filled in for injury, but Forsett has never been able to contribute with any consistency. Of course, that’s partly because he’s always been regulated to bench duty, but when given a chance he’s put up numbers.

"The Ravens have signed running back Justin Forsett to a one-year deal.Baltimore was looking to add to its running back corps this offseason. Ray Rice’s recent legal troubles, which could lead to a suspension, also a consideration, according to Head Coach John Harbaugh. Forsett joins Rice and Bernard Pierce."

Forsett brings with him a career 4.9 yard per carry average, so he’s no slouch on the field. How he recovers from a broken foot in Week 12 last year remains to be seen, but the belief is he’ll be completely healthy come training camp.
