The San Francisco 49ers have been in the market for a wide receiver all season and now we may have a better understanding as to why.

According to the Sacramento Bee, the 49ers plan to use more three wide receiver sets come the 2014 season.

"Perhaps the single-most intriguing 49ers item in the past two months was Jim Harbaugh’s hint last week that his offense will use more three-receiver packages in 2014."

The 49ers certainly aren’t going to abandon the run game, but it does sound if they plan to open up the offense a bit more which is music to the ears of 49er faithful.

It’s not known how exactly the 49ers plan to implement such a strategy – be it actually using three wide receivers or possibly having Vernon Davis flank out, which he’s been known to do. You may recall the 49ers were having Davis run wide receiver routes during the 2013 training camp.

The 49ers are also rumored to be in the market to draft a wide receiver – so it’s possible they may opt to go that route as well.

Either way, sounds like the 49ers will be a bit more interesting on offense come 2014.
