New England Patriots could trade up to draft Odell Beckham, Marqise Lee

The NFL Draft will likely see a lot of movement in the first-round but that movement is not exclusive to the top of the round. The New England Patriots are a serious threat to move around in the late half of the round and they very well could be looking at moving up.

According to Patriots beat writer Doug Kyed, the Patriots could deb moving up in the draft and could be targeting a wide receiver like USC star Marqise Lee or LSU speedster Odell Beckham.

If the Patriots trade up, it could be for a wide receiver like Marqise Lee. There’s a lot of interest there, but the USC wideout might come off the board too early for the Patriots to stay put and still get him. LSU wideout Odell Beckham is another candidate for a trade up.

Adding a receiver seems like a necessity in the first-round for the Patriots, as the position was pretty stagnant in 2013. Trading up may be the only way to grab a top prospect so it may be something we see Bill Belichick do this May.

They can’t save any money by letting Amendola go and given his contract and injury history no one would give up a decent draft pick for him so he’s a lock on the roster. Edelman is a lock on the roster. Lafells contract now guarantees him a spot on the 53 man roster. Dobson’s draft status guarantees him a spot. Unless they find a buyer for Amendola, there’s no way they add a receiver in RD 1, let alone trade up, unless it’s Mike Evans and even then they’d work him in Aaron Hernandez’s old role.
