NFL Draft Rumors: Minnesota Vikings believe Zach Mettenberger a ‘perfect fit’

The Minnesota Vikings are likely to select a quarterback at some point during the 2014 NFL Draft and it appears as if Zach Mettenberger of LSU is their top choice.

Rumors leaked earlier in the week that the Vikings had their eyes on Mettenberger and according to Draft Insider, Minnesota believes the LSU signal caller is a ‘perfect fit’ with offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

Earlier this week I reported that insiders informed me the Minnesota Vikings hope to select one of the higher rated linebackers early in round one (Khalil Mack being their preference) then grab their quarterback in round two.  Zach Mettenberger being their signal caller of choice.  Since then more sources have confirmed my report, verifying the team is high on Mettenberger who they believe is a perfect fit for Norv Turner’s system.

Of course, it’s questionable if Mettenberger will be around come the Vikings second round selection, so Minnesota may need to get creative if they want to pick him up.

Mettenberger’s stock will likely rise or drop a bit depending on how he performs at his pro day.

Waste of time if its not manziel they have failed and the vikings will b in the top 10 drafting for another year if not more. Bad choice if its true spielman will regret it when he has no job it’s a make or break choice this time after drafting ponder

Ya right… Stay away from Johnny outta the league in 3 years manzel… He has bust all over him… Mack at 8 then mettenberg

I believe if we can get Mack our defense will be top 10 again in run and might push for top 15-20 in pass…that means that the other team will have to stop our team from scoring 20 with AP, Rudolph, Patterson, Jennings and whoever else coming at them with our top 10 oline…our next QB just needs to manage the game and keep the defense well rested by giving AP 7 man fronts…I think we should pick up a scheme fit since Cassell is not a scheme fit…

I’d have Mettenberger as my top selection for QB, next Jimmy G, followed by Mccarron in the 3rd or 4th. Mettenberger has a great arm and would be in the discussion for being the first QB had he not been injured.

While Mettenburger has a rocket arm I’m not sold on his accuracy. Watching the tape from the A&M game he’s often behind, or out in front of the receivers. His escapablity is also a sore spot for me, as well. The faster LBs and D-line personnel in the NFL will make him a sack waiting to happen as the injuries have him even more limited in that area…I’d rather roll the dice with the kid out of Georgia, as late as the 3rd round…
