When rumors broke last week suggesting that the Buffalo Bills were interested in running back Chris Johnson, it didn’t really make sense – at least not on surface.

Sure, Johnson can still play but the Bills aren’t exactly in need of somebody like Johnson and he’d likely find a larger role elsewhere. Regardless, the rumor was out there. However, that’s apparently all it was as Tim Graham reports the Bills never had any interest in the former Titans running back.

"Bills source tells me Titans called to gauge interest in Chris Johnson, but Bills weren’t interested. Bills source thinks Titans floated Bills as possible trade partner for Chris Johnson to make it seem like they didn’t just cut him."

That wouldn’t be the first (nor the last) time a team randomly made up a rumor in an attempt to save face, but the Titans probably could have picked a team in greater need of a running back to give the story a bit more juice – assuming that’s actually what they were attempting to do.

Whatever the case, Chris Johnson playing for the Bills next season doesn’t look as if it will happen.
