The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers demonstrated that they were the two best teams in football last year, even if only one of them went to the Super Bowl. But while John Fox and Pete Carroll got extensions for their hard work in 2013, the question has now become what will happen with Jim Harbaugh.

It’s not a new question, as there has been a lot said about the relationship between the Niners and Harbaugh and not all of it has been positive. But according to Bill Williamson from ESPN.com, the extension handed to Carroll will have no barring on the possible extension headed Harbaugh’s way.

Per ESPN.com:

"Carroll was going into his final season and has won a Super Bowl. Giving him an extension was a non-brainer for Seattle ownership. Harbaugh has two seasons left on his deal and has not won a Super Bowl, so it’s a bit more complicated."

We really don’t know what is going to happen to Jim Harbaugh in the future, as he’s as likely to stay long-term as much as he is likely to leave like Jimmy Johnson did when he too didm’t get along with his boss. Only time will tell but the Carroll extension won’t play a factor in speeding up Harbuagh’s.
