There’s not a lot worse in professional sports than watching a legendary player be, well, less than legendary.

Even the icons of the sport eventually fall to Father Time and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is no different.

Jeter, despite some amazing defensive plays over the years, has never been what you’d call a ‘rangy’ shortstop but he could certainly get the job done defensively. However, in the past few years we’ve seen Jeter’s defensive skills decline and such was on display today as the Yankees were blasted by the Baltimore Orioles with Jeter as the poster boy for the rough afternoon.

With Ivan Nova on the mound in the first inning, a routine ground ball was hit towards Jeter who, not exactly looking overly spry couldn’t get to the infield duster as it scooted towards the outfield while Jeter took a face full of dirt.

Of course, we could say it was just a bad hop and it went under Jeter’s glove if we had some pinstripe glasses on.

That might sound better.
