The New York Jets cut wide receiver Santonio Holmes last month and he has yet to sign with a team. Whether the fact that he wasn’t signed was his decision or the market not meeting his demands, Holmes is reportedly waiting till after the draft to decide.
From Pro Football Talk:
Per a league source, receiver Santonio Holmes likely will wait until after the draft to pick his next team.
I don’t know if that strategy was a smart one, perhaps Holmes is trying to avoid signing with a team only to have to compete with a younger receiver who was drafted. The 2014 draft class is deep at receiver as well.
When Holmes was released, head coach Rex Ryan had good things to say about Holmes calling him a “tremendous competitor” despite reported attitude concerns. While that might be scaring off teams, his injury history is probably playing a more serious role.
