The Denver Broncos are living in the moment, and their offseason spending spree and the resulting long term bill is proof of that. But while the Broncos are playing for the present, there is still the question of what’s in store for the ir future — specifically at quarterback.

Brock Osweiler was drafted to become what Aaron Rodgers was to Brett Favre, but Peyton Manning isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and Denver very clearly isn’t pushing him out. This creates a sort of predicament with Osweiler that Broncos beat writer Mike Klis predicts ends with the Broncos backup leaving in free agency.

Per the Denver Post:

"Peyton Manning is the Broncos’ quarterback of the future. Seriously. Manning may be 38 years old, but he has three years left on his contract. Osweiler may be only 23, but he only has two years left on his contract.Osweiler will depart for free agency before Manning does."

It’s possible that Osweiler re-signs in the near future, as it would appear once Manning retires that the job belongs to Osweiler. After all, he’s been learning under Manning for a few years now and by the time he takes over the Broncos will be in salary cap ruin and in perfect position to toss the keys to a young quarterback.

Still, it’s situation that not many are thinking about but it’s an issue that could come up more and more as Osweiler’s free agency eligibility approaches.
