The New England Patriots are still in an arms race with the Denver Broncos this offseason, even if things have started to quiet down on the fre agent front. The fact of the matter remains, the Patriots need to get better and need to do so in a big way to keep up with Denver, as they’re no longer the darling favorites of the AFC anymore.

Not every signing the Patriots will make is going to be a championship style signing, but they are still looking at talented players on the market and tat’s wh they remain the frontrunners to sign former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith.

Per Mike Florio:

"Barely seven months removed from a torn ACL, veteran defensive end Will Smith has drawn interest from the Patriots.  For now, the Pats are viewed as the leaders to sign him, eventually."

The Patriots need help in any way they can get it and if Smith can be had for the right price, there are worse options on the market that the Patriots can go for.
