The Houston Texans are doing their due diligence as you would expect of a team owning the first pick in the NFL draft. While many mock drafts have Bill O’Brien’s club taking Jadeveon Clowney or one of the top two quarterbacks, Johnny Manziel or Blake Bortles, it’s Zach Mettenberger who may be the team’s next quarterback.

Mettenberger had his pro day on Wednesday and looked great considering he is five months removed from ACL surgery, and the Texans were one of the teams getting a closeup look at the 6-5 quarterback who has been described as possessing the biggest arm in the draft.

And he wants to play for noted quarterback guru O’Brien.

"“Coach O’Brien is a great guy,” Mettenberger told the Houston Texans official website. via NFL.com “He’s a football genius, and someone that I’d really like to work with. Every interaction I’ve had with him so far has been great.”"

The Texans may not be sold on Manziel or Bortles as the first overall pick in next month’s draft, so the betting money is they draft Clowney and pair him with former defensive MVP J.J. Watt which could lead to the team taking Mettenberger with the top pick in the second round.

Mettenberger has sold him to the Texans, now will O’Brien and Houston buy what he’s selling?
