The Minnesota Vikings are rumored to have some heavy interest in taking a quarterback next month in the 2014 NFL Draft as they begin the Mike Zimmer era. Now what round they may make that choice remains to be seen, but offensive coordinator Norv Turner recently wanted a closer look at one of the prospects not projected to go in the first round, LSU’s Zach Mettenberger.

During the LSU Pro Day this week in which Mettenberger did throw for scouts for the first time since his knee injury, Turner wanted to see a little bit more after the workout was complete.

It’s all but guaranteed that the Vikings will not use their top 10 pick in the draft on Mettenberger, but this could be an indication that they’re looking to go a different route to start things off, and may be looking toward a signal caller in the second or third.

But an experienced NFL offensive coaching veteran wanting an extra look at a quarterback definitely hold some weight.
