Although the New England Patriots worked things out with defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and could keep the big man for at least three more seasons, he is 32 years old and is coming off of a serious Achilles injury, which is why the Patriots could consider drafting a tackle early in next month’s draft.

Tom E. Curran of Comcast Sports New England believes Notre Dame Fighting Irish defensive tackle Louis Nix would be a solid addition and could be an excellent eventual replacement for Wilfork.

"With Vince Wilfork nearing the end, and in possession of a deal that may have him heading elsewhere after this season, the Patriots are going to need another elite defensive tackle/nose guard who can consume space and collapse the pocket. Nix could be the most reasonable replacement of the group on the board as interior defensive line. In a draft this deep, taking a guy at the top who may have conditioning and health issues related to weight may not be a shrewd move. Get a guy you know will play and take the gambles later."

The 6’2, 324-pound Nix had 14 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in his career at Notre Dame.
