Report: 49ers' Aldon Smith detained by police at Los Angeles airport

According to the San Jose Mercury News, there is an eyewitness account of embattled San Francisco 49ers defensive star Aldon Smith being detained by police in a Los Angeles airport on Sunday.

Linebacker Aldon Smith was detained by police Sunday at Los Angles International Airport, according to an eyewitness.

A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman would only confirm that an unidentified male had been arrested and was being transported to booking, after which time his name would be released.

Smith, 24, was at Gate 6 of Terminal 1 when confronted by several police, who then led Smith away from the Southwest gate, according to eyewitness John Egan of Austin.

As to what caused Smith to have the run-in with the police, that’s not known right at this time, but this is still unfortunate given his past run-ins with the law.

Just last season, Smith was arrested for driving under the influence just two days before the team was to play the Indianapolis Colts, a game in which he played before entering a rehab facility.
