The NBA season is about to be over and done with for a lot of formerly top teams. For the first time in NBA history the Knicks, Celtics and Lakers will all miss the postseason in what could be chalked up as a minor win for the CBA even though their struggles have little to do with the fairness of the NBA.

But while their seasons are close to being over, the future is very much in motion for all three teams and that includes the Los Angeles Lakers. The big question this offseason is whether or not they’ll be able to retain and re-sign center Pau Gasol and general manager Mitch Kupchak sees no reason why that wouldn’t be a priority.

Per Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News:

"“There’s great interest in re-signing Pau back. I don’t know why there would not be interest. He’s a Hall of Famer. But by virtue of being a free agent, he’s in the market place. By being in the market place, we have to see how things play out.”"

The big question is would Gasol be open to re-signing, which is something he’s indicated he’s not. A lot of things can happen this offseason but it’s clear that the Lakers re-signing Gasol is something the team would very much like to see happen.
