2014 NFL Draft: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix meets with Chicago Bears
Alabama Crimson Tide safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is meeting with the Chicago Bears, according to Ian Rapoport and could be the first round pick of the team as they look to address their deficiencies in the defensive backfield.
The Bears lost strong safety Major Wright in free agency and starting free safety Chris Conte is out for four-five months after undergoing surgery at the beginning of April. The team signed M.D. Jennings and Ryan Mundy in free agency to add some depth to the position, but neither are viewed as long term solutions at the position that Clinton-Dix would present.
Clinton-Dix along with Calvin Pryor are the consensus top two safeties in the draft, but bring different playing styles to the field. Clinton-Dix is more of a center fielder or ball hawk compared to the more physical Pryor who would be better in run support.
Owning the 14th pick in the draft, Clinton-Dix could be on the board for the Bears as they look to draft the best defensive player on their board in next month’s draft.
Clinton-Dix has made 88 combined tackles in the past two seasons while appearing in 25 games while recording seven interceptions, including an SEC-leading five in 2012.
