Kansas City Chiefs to pursue running back LaMichael James?

The San Francisco 49ers are openly shopping running back LaMichael James in hopes of picking up another draft pick.

If LaMichael James isn’t traded, there’s a very good chance that the 49ers will end up releasing him. Now ESPN’s Adam Teicher was asked by a fan if James would be a good fit and worth a late round pick for Kansas City. Here’s Teicher’s response:

“Maybe. If LaMichael James could adapt to the McCluster role as a slot receiver and not a running back, that move might make sense for the Chiefs. He also had done a nice job of returning kicks for the San Francisco 49ers, and the Chiefs have a need there. But he never could earn much playing time on offense with the 49ers, so that is a concern.” Adam Teicher’s response to a fan on ESPN.com

I honestly feel like it would be a great idea for the Chiefs to pursue LaMichael James. With Dexter McCluster landing with the Tennessee Titans, Kansas City will be looking to pick someone up who can play the same role that McCluster did while he was under contract.

James could very well be that player.

You have to keep in mind that some Kansas City fans have asked about trading for LaMichael James.

Should the NIners trade up to 23, they would give us their 30, plus two picks. One of which is 3rd and the other much lower. When, you consider Sproles went to the Eagles for a sixth round pick, it is not far out of the question that James could be thrown in with the trade up. Yes, he was a second pick, but, once in the league that becomes irrelevant unless a player out performs his selection. James has not been able to have the playing time in the Bay due to two things. First as a returner, he has had two fumbles and, secondly, Roman loves to use power running by Gore and rarely brings in James for a changeup. Baalke may attempt to trade for a straight trade, but, I expect him to end up using James as part of a package deal.

KC doesn’t have enough picks to trade one away for a guy who isn’t a sure contributor. If he’s released, that’s another story.

  • Larry Devore

especially if they release him, kc could go after him.

If SF wants to move up from 30 to 23, I would gladly take a 3rd round pick and James. I’d make that deal in a heartbeat. However, I don’t want KC to give up any of their current picks, they should be looking to add, not give more away.

I want one of these receivers : 1)a)Brandin Cooks b) Odell Beckham Jr, or c)Marquis Lee (whoever is still available in this order) – WR
Do not believe any of them will be there at 30….but would take the chance on Draft Day if all three were still there at 23….would roll the dice for 30 and James at moment….would have to know that James accepts being kick off/punt returner as his roll….like Dressler in the slot. Go Chiefs !
