Former Pittsburgh Panthers QB Tom Savage has been one of the fastest risers in the NFL Draft process recently. He has gone from virtual unknown, to a few calling him a potential first round choice, possibly early second round. All of that hype garnered him an invitation to New York City this past week to appear at the event, an invitation that Josina Anderson is reporting that he has respectfully declined.

While it’s an honor to be invited to the event live, this might have been a smart choice on Savage’s part. While it’s fun to listen to all of the hype and praise, nothing is guaranteed in the NFL Draft, and this especially goes in his case.

Evaluations of players have been all over the place this year with the extra month of anticipation, so we don’t know how much of this Savage talk is just thrown out there to get a reaction out of people. As much as there is a chance of a team taking a leap to get him early, there’s as much of a chance that he’s left sitting in the green room after two days when all of the free food and drinks are gone.
