The Dallas Cowboys traded up for cornerback Morris Claiborne looking to address their secondary needs. Heading into the 2014 season, Claiborne might not be pegged to start for the Cowboys however. In a mailbag Q&A session with fans, ESPN Dallas’ Todd Archer was asked if Claiborne would start or if Orlando Scandrick would get the nod.

“It has to be Orlando Scandrick,” Archer wrote for ESPN Dallas. “Last year Jason Garrett showed he was willing to bench guys and that led to Scandrick taking over for Morris Claiborne, Ernie Sims taking over for Bruce Carter and Brian Waters taking over for Mackenzy Bernadeau.

“Scandrick had his best season and deserves to remain with the starters. If he loses the job in the offseason or training camp, it has to be because Claiborne just took it away. That would be the best scenario for the Cowboys because it would mean Claiborne has finally tapped into his potential. But Claiborne has to earn it. It just can’t be given to him.”

Archer has a solid point, Scandrick earned the job in 2013 and it is his until Claiborne gives the coaching staff a reason to take it away.
