The Los Angeles Lakers may very well be done with Mike D’Antoni as their head coach and firing him would be a move that the fan base would likely fully support. But firing D’Antoni is easier said that done as there are now already three teams looking for head coaches and only so many to go around.

With Steve Kerr likely headed to New York and Minnesota looking at George Karl or possibly hiring from within, the Lakers are looking at slim pickings on the coaching front and that makes firing D’Antoni a bout complicated.

According to Chuck Myron, a few names that could be considered are not only Stan and Jeff Van Gundy, but Michigan St. head coach Tom Izzo and Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg.

The idea of Hoiberg leaving Iowa State is a bit outrageous to consider, as he’s not willing to move north a few hundred miles to Minneapolis, so the idea of him moving west thousands of miles to Los Angeles is far fetched at best. But Izzo is a rock star head coach who could very well fit the Lakers and help give them a new identity.

But before any of this even matters, the Lakers need to fire D’Antoni and that hasn’t happened yet and may not happen at all.
