The future of Pal Gasol in Los Angeles is uncertain at best, but there seems to be some progress happening behind the scenes. While nothing at all is imminent and Gasol can be fully expected to take his time, a new report suggests that Gasol returning to the Lakers in 2014-15 isn’t the most impossible thing to imagine.
According to Dave McMennamin from ESPNNewYork, there was “common ground” found between Gasol and Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni this season that has the Spanish big man willing to consider re-signing if D’Antoni isn’t fired and returns next season.
This is good news for Lakers fans but it doesn’t guarantee a return for either Gasol or D’Antoni. There are still rumblings that D’Antoni is a dead man walking and Gasol isn’t feeling very loyal to the Lakers even though he’s considering re-signing.
At the end of the day, we won’t know much about the Lakers until after the postseason and that right there is the sad theme of their season personified in the harshest of ways.
