The NFL regular season schedule will be released later tonight and there are some details about the upcoming schedule release that will add some changes to the way flex scheduling works during the 2014-15 regular season.

The league’s official website announced the change in anticipation of the schedule release, which can now begin in October.

Prior to this year’s season, flex scheduling could take place from Week 11 and on. With the expanded flex rules, the league will have the opportunity to flex two Sunday Night Football games between the fifth and tenth week of the season.

By expanding the flex scheduling, the league has a better opportunity to dominate television on Sunday night by moving their marque match up into prime time from the second month of the season and beyond.
