Steve Spurrier takes another shot at Tennessee Volunteers

Steve Spurrier has a certain way with words that has made The Head Ball Coach one of the best quotes in college football, heck in all of sports, and the Tennessee volunteers have long been the subject of some notorious Spurrier quotes as he always loved to chide his SEC east rival.

The most famous line is either saying you can’t spell the Citrus Bowl without “UT” or that Peyton Manning returned for his senior year because he wanted to be a four-time MVP of the bowl when he was the head coach with the Florida Gators.

However, Spurrier may have topped himself with this quote about the permanent rivalry between Tennessee and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Certainly, the Vols have fallen on some hard times in recent years which has coincided with the renaissance of the Alabama program under Nick Saban, but I’m pretty sure Tennessee fans will be quick to remind Spurrier that the Vols knocked off his South Carolina Gamecocks 23-21 last year in Neyland Stadium in Butch Jones’ first season on Rocky Top.

Oh, and about the whole Citrus Bowl thing, South Carolina was in the Citrus Bowl last season.

Don’t ever change Spurrier and please don’t retire. Ever.

The game has neither passed him by, nor is he drunk. If the game passed him by how has he managed to win 33 games the last 3 seasons?

He’s done well there…thanks to his name helping in recruiting. Spurrier had some of the best talent Florida ever had in their history of football, never did **** before that. Including when he played there….Tennessee or Alabama probably won the SEC in those years…probably still goes up his A**.

      • Maessssstrisimo

Um, yes it has, and yes he is.

Butch Jones made him look incompetent last season. Imagine, Jones with hardly any talent, whupping Spurrier with the cupboard full.

        Game. Passed. By.

Why would I be mad, bro?

You said two things, both of which are not true. I understand you’re a Tennessee fan or at least don’t like or respect Spurrier, but you haven’t said anything factual. So, no I ain’t mad bro.

Poor OLD Spurrier’s clearly got early-onset Alzheimer’s and has been suffering from dementia for years.
If Schmidt loves him so much, then they should get a room together.

I guess you didn’t see where I wrote that Spurrier lost to Tennessee last year and his Citrus Bowl comments must sting since he was in the Citrus Bowl last season. But yeah. I think making fun of Alzheimer’s and dementia are really funny

      • Jacklail

You’re the one who wants him to stick around. Dementia and
Alzheimer’s generally aren’t funny, but neither is Spurrier. Except for you and a few others who are too easily amused, most of the world grew weary of his puerile, boorish behavior long ago and won’t mind seeing him finally waddle off into the sunset.

        • http://www.rantsports.com/blog/author/patrickschmidt/feed/ Patrick Schmidt

He’s good for college football and is always good for a good quote. I don’t think “most of the world” has grown weary of him. If that was the case, he wouldn’t be on national TV and radio all the time. And quite frankly, he’s be out of a job

UT has fallen on hard times recently….and everyone does at one time or another. But Tennessee has beaten Bama more times than any other school including Auburn. Even the great Bear Bryant said you never knew how good you were until you played Tennessee. That was years past, but it’s still a rivalry game. Spurrier just being Spurrier…never really cared for him much.
