The Golden State Warriors lost a heartbreaker to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night but they have a few things that will help take the minds of their fans off the game. While the team is down 2-1 in the series, some big changes rest on the horizon for Golden State — namely their name.

A name change is in the works as the team prepares to build a new stadium and there’s a food chance that the team changes not the name of the team itself but the location of the team and the city it represents. Right now the Warriors are the very ambiguous Golden State which os representative of the Golden State Bridge and the Bay Area. The Dubs currently play in Oakland but a move to San Francisco may prompt an adoption of the city’s name.

“We’re very curious what our fans think of that,” Warriors president and CEO Rick Welts said, via Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. “I couldn’t imagine making that decision in the very near future, but we definitely want to see what our fans prefer.”

The Warriors were once called the San Francisco Warriors but dropped the name for the more universal Golden State. But San Francisco is a hot place to be if you’re a sports franchise and since the warriors are making the leap across the bay, it may be up to the fans when it comes to what the team calls itself down the road.
