The Philadelphia Eagles made a shocking decision to release their most productive wide receiver in DeSean Jackson. The decision to release Jackson came amid reports breaking of alleged gang connections, making the speculation into why Jackson was released murky. Jackson came out and denied those rumors but the timing of the two made things interesting.

Jackson denied the reports and allegations and it wasn’t enough to deter teams from being interested and he signed a deal with the Washington Redskins. Adolpho Birch, the league’s senior vice president of labor policy and government affairs, said based on “discussions and review of the situation” he believes Jackson was released by the Eagles for “football reasons.”

There were reports of Jackson and head coach Chip Kelly butting heads and Jackson skipping an end of season exit interview.

Birch added: “I think it’s fair to say that there is no indication that was the case — with respect to him — that he had any of those sorts of (gang) ties. … I think we are comfortable that the decisions made on both ends were football decisions.”
