Aside from the current action in the NBA Playoffs, the hot topic of discussion in the league has been whether or not the Los Angeles Lakers will bring back head coach Mike D’Antoni for at least one more season. Well according to a report from the Orange County Register, after much deliberation in the front office, D’Antoni will be returning to run the Lakeshow for the 2014-15 season.
After 10 days of soul searching, the key figures in Lakers management are agreed on bringing back D’Antoni for a third season as coach, a source with knowledge of the deliberations told the Register.
This news while not completely and utterly shocking, is a bit of a surprise. It’s a surprise mainly because it seems that the leader of the bunch, Kobe Bryant, really wants nothing to do with D’Antoni being around, but now it appears that the two will have to co-exist for a third season together regardless.
Also, Pau Gasol has been a tad vocal with his displeasure of being coached by D’Antoni, but again, it seems as if the Buss family either doesn’t care about the players’ opinions, or they truly believe that everything will work out in the end.
Should this report come to fruition in the next few days, it’ll be interesting to not only get the opinions of the players, but the fan base as well who made it widely known also that a change was in order.
