NFL Draft Rumors: Jim Harbaugh thinks David Fales is a top 5 quarterback

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t looking for Colin Kaepernick’s replacement but they may be zeroing in on his longterm backup. The Niners are armed with plenty of picks in the draft and while they traded for Blaine Gabbert last month, they are falling in love with one of the rising stars in the class.

According to ESPN’s Bill Williamson, Harbaugh remains high on San Jose State quarterback David Fales and even considers him to be a top five pick.

Harbaugh said Friday he thinks Fales is a top-five quarterback in the draft. The 49ers may get a chance to draft him to be Colin Kaepernick’s long-term backup when they want it use a pick on a quarterback . Many scouts think Fales is a late-round prospect.

Obviously, Fales won’t be a top five pick and may not even be a second day pick but there are plenty of teams who have checked him out and the Niners aren’t the only ones who can envision a future with him. Gabbert as a backup plan is a decent idea, but if Harbaugh can get Fales he’s proven in the past he’s not afraid to draft a guy wherever he wants.
