The home run king is going to have to take some time off.

After wincing in pain after a swing and a miss during Baltimore’s Friday game against the Royals, Chris Davis sat out Saturday’s game with pain in his oblique muscle. He went and had an MRI and after the game on Saturday, the Orioles announced that their All-Star first baseman would have to head to the 15-day disabled list.

The injury is officially diagnosed as an oblique strain, and Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun says that Buck Showalter hasn’t decided just yet on how to plug the hole vacated both in the lineup and at first base. Outfielder Nick Markakis started at first for the O’s and Ryan Flaherty can play there as well.

As for bringing someone up from the minors, Showalter says that the team can afford to wait until after their series finally against Kansas City. They have two off days in their schedule coming up on Monday and Thursday, with a series at home against the Pirates in between.

12:00 PM EST EDIT: The Orioles didn’t officially announce Davis to the 15-day DL. Showalter said it during the presser last night that they would have to put Davis on the DL. Roch Kubatko of MASN says that a 25th player will not be added to the Orioles today and that Davis’ DL move could come after the game today. They could delay the move until Manny Machado is ready.
