With the NFL Draft just ten days away, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel remains one of the most intriguing prospects available. The latest rumors surrounding Manziel link him to the Philadelphia Eagles, which Peter King of TheMMQB.com reports was passed along by a “smart and reliable source.”

Of course, King quickly followed that nugget up by saying another source told him that the Eagles drafting Manziel will absolutely not happen.

The Eagles currently have Nick Foles, Mark Sanchez and Matt Barkley under contract, but it is easy to see why Chip Kelly would have some interest in a mobile and athletic quarterback for his offense. Kelly also recruited Manziel when he was with the Oregon Ducks.

It is still possible that the Eagles could add a quarterback in the draft, but making Johnny Manziel their first-round pick is not a strategy that would make sense.

With so many needs in the secondary, the Eagles would be wise to focus on getting better in the defensive backfield before making a splash on a controversial prospect at one of the most crucial positions on the field.
