When it comes to Apple, product reveals are usually splashy and highly documented but that’s when they’re selling something for a lot of money. When it’s something cheap, the hype is a lot less noticeable from Apple but despite the lack of fanfare, there has been a notable announcement made by the tech company.

To counter the fact that they price their laptops at ridiculously above market prices, Apple has announced their cheapest MacBook ever as the company will be selling the 11-inch MacBook Air at the starting price of $899.

Per Apple Insider:

"In a change perhaps more significant than their improved processors, Apple’s latest MacBook Airs come with a price cut from their predecessors, with the entry-level 11-inch model starting at $899, while the 13-inch variety is now just under $1,000. The $899 model in particular represents the lowest-ever original U.S. price for a newly released Mac notebook."

The move comes as Apple is finding a need to stay competitive int he market they created as while they’ve dominated with their iPods, iPads and iPhones for years, companies like Microsoft and Samsung have fired back with competitive tablets and smartphones that are in some ways better than Apple.

Even Google is in on the laptop game, so a price reduction to more realistic consumer levels was inevitable. It’s not the traditional MacBook laptops, but it’s a cheaper option and a move in the right direction for Apple.
