When we last heard from Bryan Colangelo, he was being exiled as the general manager of the Toronto Raptors, but now, there is a report circulating that son of USA Basketball head man Jerry Colangelo could be in line for a chance to run the Detroit Pistons.

Michael Grange of SportsNet brings the report on Colangelo’s potential destination:

"After a year on hiatus multiple NBA sources have told Sportsnet that he’s close to joining the fray again and is a leading candidate to run the Detroit Pistons."

Aside from the thoughts of Raptors fans (who are probably cackling with glee and laughter at news of Colangelo emerging as a candidate anywhere), this makes some sense for Detroit. He has a long record of experience at the top level of NBA management, including putting together a playoff team at one point in Toronto and acquiring much of the talent that placed the Raps in the playoffs this season.

However, he has been roundly criticized for some of his more high-profile decisions (Andrea Bargnani, anyone?), and Colangelo hasn’t necessarily been shy in avoiding the limelight. This report has not been confirmed elsewhere at this time, so it is possible that the language is a bit aggressive at this stage, but for now, Colangelo is the most credible candidate that has been linked to Detroit.
