The future of the Los Angeles Clippers is a tale of two different stories that are intertwined. While the team on the court is trying to advance to the Conference Semifinals and continue their player push for a title, the drama in the front office is unavoidable and as we saw in Game 4 on Sunday, affects the team’s performance.

But with Donald Sterling on his way out as owner of the Clippers, there has been a push by his family to retain ownership of the team and not lose it to someone else. Shelly Sterling has come out against her husband’s comments but there are very few in the NBA who want to see the Sterling name associated with the Clippers.

Shelly, on the other hand, would like her son to take over ownership of the Clippers, according to a report from Yahoo.

The thing about the Sterlings retaining ownership or not is that we need to ask if the rest of Donald Sterling’s family deserves punishment for the actions of one. While it seems unfair, this wouldn’t be the first time racism has had a ripple affect across a family and in this case, all that is lost is an NBA team.

It’s hard to see a scenario where a Sterling retains any sort of control over the Clippers but it’s not impossible to imagine one in which someone other than Donald is considered. Still, being considered and keeping the team are two different things and the Sterlings have one person to thank for the family losing the team.
