As silly as the story surrounding the civil citation for Florida State star quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston seems to be, it appears that NFL scouts and teams are watching closely.

There is no denying Winston is one of the most talented players in college football, but his inability to make good decisions off of the field has led to some increased skepticism about his chances of success at the next level and it has caused many teams to wonder whether or not they will be able to trust him.

Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report spoke with an NFL scout who had some startling comments.

“When I heard about this, I was stunned. He was the top overall pick next year. Was. Not any more,” the scout said. “This latest thing shows a continuation of bad judgment. I don’t trust him, and I can tell you very few teams in the NFL will trust him.”

Another league executive added, “He’s on his way to falling out of the first round.”

With an increased emphasis on off-field behavior, it will be interesting to see how things continue to develop. Unlike Johnny Manziel, who was crucified in the media because of his partying antics, Winston has actually been involved in legal issues. Winston’s incidents have nothing to do with being a kid that is having fun. They have everything to do with stupidity.

Hopefully he will be able to keep his focus on the football field and avoid any further incidents off the field, or he could burn any bridges with NFL teams before they are even built because of poor decisions and a simple lack of trust.
