The Denver Broncos let running back Knowshon Moreno leave in free agency, opening up the featured back spot on their depth chart. Young running back Montee Ball wants to be that guy for the Broncos, but knows it won’t get handed to him and he’ll have to earn it.

“I know for a fact they’re not going to hand it to me, they’re going to make sure we all get our opportunities throughout camp and throughout OTAs, but it’s going to be who’s the most productive,” Ball said this week, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “But for me, my mentality is that it is my job.”

If there is one thing he can feel some confidence in, it is that quarterback Peyton Manning believes in him and endorsed him for the job saying he believes Ball is ready to be the starter. Given how much attention the Broncos’ passing offense gets, Moreno routinely faced boxes  with six or fewer defenders nearly 80 percent of the time.
