Dallas Cowboys 2014 NFL Draft preview

As our 2014 NFL Draft previews continue to roll on, the Dallas Cowboys are on the clock. The Cowboys are always one of the most intriguing teams in the league, and this year is no different with the Cowboys showing some potential interest in adding Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel.

It is highly unlikely that the Cowboys will make a trade up to acquire Manziel, but that will actually work in their favor.

By hanging on to their current draft picks, the Cowboys will have the opportunity to load up on talent in the front seven, which is something they completely lack with very few players capable of playing in Monte Kiffin’s 4-3 scheme currently on the roster.

Look for players like Florida State’s Timmy Jernigan or Aaron Donald of Pitt to be in the mix. If the defensive tackles are gone, then Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix or Calvin Pryor could be options that would help fix the team’s safety woes that have plagued them for years.

I dont see the Cowboys picking a DT in the 1st round unless Barr, Pryor, Dix and maybe even Shazier are gone. And even then I think they would go OT/OG or even WR before DT. People just do not research very well. Jernigan for one is a 1 tech and Dallas does not value that position in their scheme as much as other key positions. Thats why they passed on Floyd last year. In Donalds case the Cowboys already signed Melton who is a pro bowl 3 tech. They have also signed a 1 tech in FA in McClain and have two other key D-lineman coming back from injury. Marinelli has already said he wants to have an 8 to 9 man rotation on the D-line. So unless Clowney or Barr somehow falls to them then they need to go with a guy who is a 3 down player at 16. The DE and DT position is pretty deep again this year and I can see Dallas drafting a DE in the 2nd or 3rd round. Dallas has huge needs at FS and LB as well as the D-line and those guys will be 3 down players.

I agree 100% with David. Donald/Barr at 16 or trade back aquire a 3rd or if we’re lucky a 2nd. Then at end of 1st round target either a LB or FS. Those two positions aren’t nearly as deep as D-Line in this draft. I see Crichton, Lawrance or Ealy in 2nd round. With our one of our 3rd’s we could target DE Martin, Murray or Smith. Then with bonus 3rd round pick we target WR, O-Line or DT. In the 4th & 5th rounds we start looking at QB, RB or just BPA

Be nice they could get two projected first two rounders with their first two picks. If both safeties are gone then the first two picks need to be Dline or Oline

You can say what you want. But do you really think Jerry Jones is going to let the chance to make that much money off of Johnny Football pass him by? I don’t think so. Not to mention if Romo gets destroyed this season and is done, then what? You don’t find it interesting that the majority of Romo’s salary this year was converted to a bonus?
