Playstation 4 Firmware Update to include even more features?

The Playstation 4 1.7 firmware update just graced consoles yesterday.  According to industry insider Tidux though, we may not have seen everything.

One thing the Playstation 4 is still lacking; notifications that your friends are online.  According to bjexbob, an industry insider, this feature should be coming with update 1.8.  Tidux confirmed that bjexbob should definitely have access to accurate information and that this new update should have legs.

Apparently, according to Tidux, the friend notifications have been working internally on the Playstation 4 since update 1.6, but the technology hasn’t been implemented for general users just yet.

Reading between the lines of both industry insiders, Sony’s blog, and Community Managers, it seems as though there may be a few features that were missed on update 1.7 and may be coming quicker than update 1.8.  This suggest that Sony may have a sub update scheduled for the Playstation 4.

At any rate, whenever Sony does more new features for the Playstation 4, we can be assured as gamers that they are committed to a constantly living console.  With the ability to continue to update the system, the Playstation 4 should continue to produce at the highest level for gamers for years to come.
