Jarrod Saltalamacchia finds Braves’ sign-stealing accusations laughable

Pretty much everyone was stunned when the Miami Marlins took it to the Braves in a recent series, sweeping the three-game set in thoroughly butt-kicking fashion.

The Braves themselves were so shocked by the pantsing, they convinced themselves that something fishy was going on. Like, sign stealing.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez became so paranoid about this alleged sign stealing that he had the signs changed at least five times in the third game of the series. Gonzalez also reportedly suspected the Marlins of stationing someone inside the center field statue at Marlins Park.

Because Fredi Gonzalez is clearly nuts.

What do the Marlins think about these cheating allegations? Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia finds them funny.

“To me, it’s kind of laughable,” Saltalamacchia told MLB.com. “It doesn’t affect us. All it says to me is we’re going out there swinging the bats. We’re swinging the bats well enough where people are going to think we’re cheating and getting signs.”

Salty went on, “At the end of the year, we’ll let all that play out. We’re not going to let that affect who we are or what we’re doing. We’re having a good approach right now. They’re leaving balls over the plate, and we’re able to do something.”

Maybe the Braves need to worry less about these paranoid sign stealing scenarios, and more about getting their pitchers and hitters right?

Getting crushed by the Marlins should be a red flag that you’re just not as good as you thought. A good manager sees that as an opportunity to teach his guys. Fredi Gonzalez sees it as an opportunity to transform into Oliver Stone.

It could be that Fredi is the real problem in Atlanta.
