NBA Trade Rumors: Thaddeus Young to request trade if Sixers draft a PF

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking at possibly getting two picks inside of the lottery this year as they own their pick from this year as well as the pick belonging to the New Orleans Pelicans. If the Pelicans don’t land in the top 3 of the draft, the pick will be going to the Sixers which means there’s a good chance a power forward is taken.

Should that happen, Thaddeus Young is unlikely to stick around to see how things turn out in 2014-15.

Per Tom Moore of Calkins Media

If one of the top-10 picks is a ‘4’ man, Young won’t want to come off the bench for a team that might not win 30 games in what should be the prime of his career. Sixers coach Brett Brown said Young could play some small forward, but he’d have to upgrade his ball-handling and outside shooting for that to be a realistic alternative.

We;ve been hearing Young’s name pop up in trade rumors all year long but this is the first it has started to make literal sense. There’s no place on the Sixers for Young if the team drafts a power forward then a trade seems to be the most likely conclusion to his playing days in Philly.

Love Thaddeus’ game or at least hustle and determination out there even being undersized at the 4 most nights. If everyone on all NBA squads played with his intensity all the time the NBA be a better product. I’d like to keep him, but it does make sense to trade him away providing you get value. Perhaps trading the 10th pick and Thaddeus can get you the 6th – 8th pick to get Gordon or Vonleh. That way we get a bigger power forward who’s younger and more potential.
