When the New York Knicks decided on Steve Kerr (and they reportedly have or are close to doing so), they wanted to hire him quickly so they could beat out any of the playoff teams that may be interested once they were eliminated.

The Golden State Warriors were one team who was was expected to show interest in Kerr if they decided to fire coach Mark Jackson, which they did Tuesday.

According to Frank Isola of The New York Daily News, the Warriors want Kerr and have already reached out to him.

Warriors owner wants Steve Kerr. This could get interesting,” Isola wrote. “The Warriors have already contacted Steve Kerr, according to a league source. Knicks have not reached out to Mark Jackson.”

Marcus Thompson of The San Jose Mercury News, added that Kerr is indeed interested in the gig.

The Warriors, a 51-win team this year, are obviously in a much better position than the Knicks, so Kerr could opt to choose the better team rather than working for his former coach, Phil Jackson.
