There is nothing funny about back pain, as Louis CK showed us on Monday’s season premiere of Louie.

Joe Mauer can certainly relate to Louie’s painful plight, as he himself has recently been experiencing back spasms. These pains have been pretty severe, as Mauer explained to the Star Tribune’s Lavelle E. Neal III.

“The last couple days have been pretty brutal. So I’m starting to move around a little better, which is good,” Mauer said.

Though he is improving, the Twins’ first baseman is still a few days away from returning to the line up according to manager Ron Gardenhire.

“He’s feeling better but still not ready,” Gardenhire said. “When I walked into the trainer’s room, he was still in the whirlpool and is doing all the treatment you’re supposed to do. Day-to-day, that’s basically where we are with this thing until it lightens up on him and he is able to go and do everything.”

If Joe wants to experience permanent relief from his back troubles, he should heed the advice Charles Grodin gave Louie: Walk around on all fours.

The human spine, Grodin explained, is not designed to be used by upright-walking bipeds like Louis CK, Joe Mauer, you and me.

Evolution. Such a clusterbleep.
