The Baltimore Ravens have been rumored to be after a quarterback in this year’s draft and it seems they’re narrowing their options down. While anyone can be taken in the later rounds to back up Joe Flacco, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Ravens have done their ‘due diligence’ on LSU gunslinger Zach Metternberger.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday morning, less than 48 hours before the draft, that Mettenberger has a spinal condition that is either hereditary or is from being hit so many times during this short football career. Either way, the Ravens are apparently aware of the condition and not too particularly afraid of it being an issue.

It will be interesting to see where Baltimore goes with their quarterback choice later in the draft as there are a number of possible names they could go with. But Mettenberger is a guy a lot of teams have their eye on, which means if Baltimore takes him then they could end up developing him and flipping him quicker than we anticipate.

Then again, hanging onto him isn’t a bad decision either as we saw last year how important a backup is to a team and how a solid one can make or break a season once the starter goes down.
