Less than 24 hours after the Cleveland Browns had one of the more successful opening rounds of the NFL Draft in their history, the team got some very unwanted news as ESPN reported that the NFL’s leading receiver from last season, Josh Gordon, is facing a year-long suspension for a second failed drug test.
While the news was bad, it’s not exactly like the team didn’t know that this could be coming as Cleveland.com is now saying that the Browns have known about the positive test for the last two weeks.
With this, now you really have to wonder what the team was thinking trading out of that no. 4 spot with the Buffalo Bills, who got up there and ultimately took the best wide receiver in the draft, Sammy Watkins.
While this is a deep draft at wide receiver, the team was in the position to get the unquestioned best there was in the bunch, and they passed, for whatever reason. Gordon led the entire NFL last season with over 1,600 yards receiving on 87 catches with nine touchdowns, a monster type of production that the team will sorely miss this year it seems like. He was able to do this despite missing two games last year for his first failed test.
