The San Francisco 49ers are perhaps the smartest draft day front office in all of football as they’ve managed to have an embarrassment of riches in the past few years that has led to the team not only adding great prospects but also moving around the draft without even putting a dent into their draft pick haul.

Case in point was the 49ers moving back from No. 56 overall and then moving immediately back up to No. 57 overall all while picking up a 4th round draft pick next year that cancels out the one they traded to ac Stevie Johnson earlier in the day.

Beyond the brilliance of the move itself and all the ramifications it had, the Niners used the No. 57 overall pick to take running back Carlos Hyde from Ohio State.

Hyde’s selection came in the middle of a run on running backs and may be the best pick announced all night in terms of fits. He’s a downhill runner who fits the Harbaugh system of pounding the ball and he’s going to form a vicious backfield with Frank Gore and Marcus Lattimore.
