10 Bold Predictions: Colorado Rapids vs. Chivas USA

facebooktwitterreddit

The ongoing saga of Wilmer Cabrera’s Chivas USA, the lovable losers of Major League Soccer, continues when they face Pablo Mastroeni’s Colorado Rapids, who are feeling pretty good after a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy last weekend. Chivas USA are coming off a rough 4-1 defeat to the Houston Dynamo at home, and it will not get any easier in the unfriendly confines of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on May 11.

Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. ET/3 p.m. ET and will be televised by UniMas. Here are 10 Bold Predictions for Sunday afternoon’s encounter between the Colorado Rapids and Chivas USA.

1. No goals for Chivas USA

While Erick Torres has been on a scoring hotstreak this season, he will not get in on goal this weekend against Colorado. In fact, there will be no goals for Chivas USA this game.

2. At least 30 fouls and four cards

This will be a very chippy affair in Commerce City. The MLS Multiplex hereby predicts—boldly, I might add—that there will be at least 30 fouls whistled and four cards issued, any color.

3. Dan Kennedy with under five saves

Dan Kennedy should be back this week after serving his one-game suspension for a red card. Kennedy will make under five saves this game. The hope here is that he doesn’t get sent off for the second time in three weeks. But you never know.

4. Clint Irwin with under five saves

Interestingly, Clint Irwin won’t have to make a lot of saves, either. That’s because the Rapids will be on the attack for most of the game, holding possession on the side. Irwin will make under five saves on Sunday against Chivas.

5. Vicente Sanchez with a brace

No pain, no gain. That’s the mantra for Vicente Sanchez, who will get a brace against Chivas USA to lead the Rapids.

6. DeShorn Brown on goal for Colorado

DeShorn Brown is a young gun on the rise, and when he gets going, he’s hard to stop. Brown will score in the second half for Colorado.

7. No goals for Jose Mari

The last time the MLS Multiplex predicted a goal from Jose Mari, we were sorely disappointed. This time around, we’ll set the bar real low that it touches the ground. There will be no goals for Mari in this game.

8. Chris Klute with a goal and an assist

On the other hand, Chris Klute happens to be a bit of a reliable player himself. Even though he hasn’t registered in the statistics, the Plex will take a chance on Klute getting on the scoresheet in this game. Remember, these are Bold Predictions, and the point isn’t exactly to be right, but rather to be bold.

9. No goals for Edson Buddle

Edson Buddle won’t get on goal in this game, even though he has already scored this season. Here is one scoring veteran that the Goats will figure out. It will be some sort of a consolation victory for Chivas.

10. Colorado Rapids take this one

This will be an easy victory for the Colorado Rapids, who are hitting on all cylinders with Pablo Mastroeni as their boss. Watch for a very one-sided show up in Commerce City.
