The Arizona Cardinals were rumored to be looking at Johnny Manziel when he dropped to them at No. 20 overall on Thursday but they instead traded back and waited 100 picks before finally addressing the quarterback need they have. It’s not a pressing need though, which makes the selection of Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas that much sweeter for Bruce Arians and the Cardinals.

What Arizona is getting in Thomas is your prototypical project quarterback as he’s nowhere near being able to start in the NFL but has the tools to develop into a franchise guy. He’s tall, has an absolute cannon for an arm but is still raw and rough around the edges and will need to be developed.

Thankfully, he falls into a system where Bruce Arians is a quarterback whisperer and Carson Palmer is more than capable to start and lead the team. He’ll have a pair of excellent mentors in Arizona and Thomas may have fallen into the best situation possible for him in the draft.
