NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns interested in Trevor Ariza

The Phoenix Suns had a fantastic season and were one of the most improved teams in the league this season. However, they just barely missed out on the postseason in the loaded Western Conference.

The Suns would like to add a veteran to their young team, believing a player like Washington Wizards’ forward Trevor Ariza, who had a fantastic season (and postseason so far) would be a great addition.

Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders believes the Suns could add Ariza and will almost certainly keep Eric Bledsoe, who will be a restricted free agent.

Bledsoe will be a restricted free agent, but teams may be wary to give him an offer sheet, given the likelihood that the Suns match.

Pencil in Bledsoe on a deal in the $9 million a season range, slightly higher than Teague and what Lowry might get from Toronto.

The Suns would like to add a veteran forward.  An argument could be made that the Wizards should re-sign Ariza, given how well he’s played through the postseason.

With Martell Webster and Otto Porter under contract, the Washington may balk at an $8 million or $9 million starting salary for Ariza.

Ariza averaged 14.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season.

Its nice to finally hear some news about the suns FA, but I really wasn’t happy to hear Ariza’s name. Don’t get me wrong he’s great and he seems like a great fit, but I honestly wish it was Hayward’s name. I have a good feeling he won’t dissappoint. Despite he may cost us 13 mil I would aggressively see to it he signs an offer sheet with the phoenix suns. Stats don’t show it, but I’ve watched him closely and I see something special in him. He is a two way player and a do it all kind of guy. I’m still praying Hayward is THEE go to option after we’ve settled things with tucker and bledsoe. Can’t wait for more news.

Hayward plays no defense/has no defense…last thing suns need is a guy who cant defend at the 3…guys like LeBron George & KD play those positions, so I like the Trevor Ariza idea to defend those guys!

Exactly. Too bad Green cannot defend like Ariza, then the Suns could devote their resources to fill a real need at PF.

What!? Hayward plays Defense. Steals are considered apart of Defense. Along with blocks. I was thinking we trade Green move tucker to back up 2 and lets say hayward and tucker are playing, On defense Tucker will guard the 3 and Hayward guards the 2. You got a great defender in tucker guarding the best players at the 3 and Hayward oversized guarding the 2.

I’d consider it a windfall if we got Bledsoe at below ten million. That sense of some hard-up team like the Lakers turning his services into a bidding war–and blowing a 2007-style chunk of change on the guy because they’ve missed out on the bigger FA fish–remains a threat to keeping this backcourt together.
