NFL Rumors: Browns may target Santonio Holmes, Miles Austin to replace Josh Gordon

The Cleveland Browns have a big decision ahead of them when it comes to what they will do with wide receiver Josh Gordon, but it appears that they have decided to stand by him in the long run. But in the short term, the team will still need a replacement for Josh Gordon and that has them looking at a few former stars to possibly get the job done.

According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, the Browns may target former Jets receiver Santonio Holmes and former Cowboys wide out Miles Austin to fill in for Gordon while he serves out whatever suspension comes his way.

It’s unclear what punishment will come Gordon’s way and we don’t know how long he’s going to be suspended. Even if it’s just for a few games, with Johnny Manziel in town now it might not be a bad idea to get as many weapons as possible to make the offense as explosive as the front office can.

The browns screwed themselves big time. They had the chance to get Sammy Watkins, and passed for some inexplicable reason. Now they are stuck trying to sign miles and santonio. How old are they? Lol 80? It’s just a mess.

Its not a mess at all. Think about this, every WR drafted to a new team will be forcing a veteran WR off their new team. Many of these players that get released will be in their prime with game experience which is something that no rookie will have.
I’ve been told the Browns had their draft board set and in every round their highest rated player was never a WR. Instead of reaching for one, they stayed true to their board and picked players that filled needs.
Smart GM’s run their draft this way and never pick a player just because he is a position of need. Besides, WR are a dime a dozen and Offensive linemen as well as CB’s and DL are prime draft selections that should always be drafted over a stud WR’s and RB’s!

I completely disagree with you. It’s a very very simple argument. The quarterback needs someone to throw the ball to. Just simply that. I don’t give a crap about their draft board. All I care about is the fact that these guys knew TWO WEEKS before the draft that josh could potentially be out. And what did they do? They passed on the chance to get the best wide receiver in the draft, and ended up taking a guy who wasn’t even the best damn corner in the draft! It’s atrocious decision making, but what else can you expect from these guys? Anyone who says they don’t see the mistake here is either lying or delusional. Now they could be stuck trying to sign guys who can’t get jobs anywhere else, like santonio or miles Austin and his constant hamstring problems. Complete absurdity.

2 WRs that can’t stay healthy and are barely #3 WR material right now.

Tryin to find the bright spot here, the defense was really improved in the offseason.defenses do win championships!are running game is gonna be drastically improved with Ben Tate and help on the interior of the o-line,not to mention the kid they drafted, who I have seen comparisons drawn to MJD.We still have cam Jordan.Hawkins is supposed to be the best slot receiver we have had in awhile. And here I’m crossing both my fingers, maybe the Gordon situation is not as bad as it appears!!!My attempt to look on the bright side of things! Also,Shanohan does have a pretty decent track record working with guys of a comparable skill set to Manziel!!!Peace out and GO BROWNS!!!!
