NFL Rumors: Vikings would have drafted Jimmy Garoppolo or Tom Savage
By Josh Hill
The Minnesota Vikings ended up getting one of the top quarterbacks in the draft class and they didn’t even have to try that hard to get him. After trading back into the first round, the Vikings selected Teddy Bridgewater with the final pick of the round, but they had a backup plan had they missed on him.
According to Albert Breer from NFL Network, had the Vikings missed out on Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater they would have targeted Tom Savage or Jimmy Garoppolo later in the draft.
This is interesting to hear, as the Vikings weren’t falling over themselves to draft either Manziel or Bridgewater at No. 9 overall when both were still on the board. We saw the Vikings jump back into the round to draft Bridgewater but it appears they’d have been content grabbing Savage or Garoppolo as well.
Both quarterbacks were eventually drafted, but it’s interesting to think about how the draft would have shaken up had the Vikings passed on Bridgewater and taken someone less exciting like Savage or Garoppolo.
