After figuring out that the Greg Schiano experiment was failing miserably, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired former Bears head coach Lovie Smith following their 4-12 campaign to try and turn things around.
Very soon, the Bucs will begin that journey back to the top of the NFC South as they start their offseason workout activities, getting set for the 2014 season.
Here’s a look at the team’s upcoming spring and summer schedule prior to the regular season getting underway.
OTA offseason workouts:May 20-22, May 27-29, June 2-5
Mandatory minicamp: June 10-12
Tampa Bay and Smith made some very good moves in the offseason that wouldn’t make a playoff run all that shocking.
They brought in free agent QB Josh McCwown and signed him to a two-year deal, prompting Smith to immediately name him the starter. They also signed a beast of a defensive lineman in Michael Johnson and then got some help for McCown by drafting 6-5 wide receiver Mike Evans this past weekend.
Whether or not they make that playoff run remains to be seen, but they’ve made some good moves in that direction.
